A round lens to enlarge the date

A date magnifier, also called a cyclops lens, is a small lens glued onto the watch crystal right above the date window. It enlarges the date numeral and makes it readable at a glance. This round model comes in 7 diameters, from 3.5 to 6.5 mm: use the size table below to pick yours.

When to replace it

• The original lens has come unstuck or been lost.
• The lens is scratched, chipped or dull.
• You are fitting a new crystal and want to restore the original look of the watch.

Choosing the right size

Measure the diameter of the old lens or the width of the date window with a caliper. Choose a lens whose diameter fully covers the window without overlapping the indexes. Our guide measuring with a caliper explains the method.

Fitting

Clean and degrease the crystal and the contact face of the lens carefully. Apply a very small amount of crystal glue, such as GS Hypo Cement, then position the lens centred over the date window before the glue sets. Let it dry without handling the watch.
