Measuring a watch crystal accurately

Before ordering a replacement crystal, you need to know its diameter and thickness. This digital caliper reads these dimensions quickly on its digital display, with no vernier scale to interpret. It can also measure a case, a date magnifier, a gasket or the width of a strap.

Measuring your crystal properly

• Clean the crystal and the caliper jaws.
• Zero the display with the jaws closed.
• For the diameter, hold the crystal between the outside jaws without forcing and take several readings while turning it.
• For the thickness, measure at the edge of the crystal, then at the centre if it is domed.
