The bullet-shaped date magnifier

A date magnifier, or cyclops lens, is a small lens glued onto the watch crystal above the date window to enlarge the date. The bullet shape, elongated with rounded ends, differs from round and rectangular lenses. It is offered in 3 sizes, with a width from 6.0 to 7.6 mm; the full size details are listed in the table on this page.

When to use it

• To replace a bullet lens that has come unstuck, been scratched or lost.
• To complete a new crystal supplied without a lens.
• To restore the original look of a watch fitted with this type of cyclops.

Measuring and fitting

Measure the width and length of the old lens with a caliper (see our guide measuring with a caliper) and choose the closest size. Clean and degrease the crystal, apply a very small amount of crystal glue such as GS Hypo Cement, then place the lens above the date window, keeping it aligned with the date axis. Let it dry without handling the watch.
