Domed mineral crystal 0.8 mm

A thin domed crystal for small cases

At just 0.8 mm thick, this domed mineral crystal generally suits watches whose bezel leaves little available height. It is often found on ladies' watches, dress models and small quartz watches, with crystal diameters between 14.0 mm and 34.0 mm. The range includes 199 diameters, so you can get as close as possible to the original size.

What the material and shape offer

Mineral crystal is a good compromise between strength and price. Its standard hardness is about 5 to 6 on the Mohs scale: it withstands minor everyday knocks better than acrylic, but scratches more easily than sapphire.

The domed shape gives a curved profile that sits slightly proud of the bezel. It softens the lines of the watch and recreates the look of many vintage models. On the other hand, the top of the crystal is more exposed to rubbing than a flat crystal.

• Low thickness: 0.8 mm, for shallow cases
• Single price: €5.90 whatever the diameter
• No surface treatment

Measuring the old crystal

Use a calliper. On a domed crystal, the diameter is taken at the base, where the crystal sits in the bezel, not at the top of the curve. Then measure the thickness at the edge: if you get a value close to 0.8 mm, this reference is the right lead. If the crystal is broken, measure the bezel opening. The measuring guide explains each step, and the page on crystal types helps you identify the original material.
