Domed mineral crystal 1.0 mm

This is the widest reference among our domed mineral crystals: 279 diameters, from 14.0 mm to 50.0 mm, with a thickness of 1.0 mm. This span covers everything from a small ladies' watch to a large men's case.

Which watches?

A 1.0 mm thickness is often found on mass-produced watches, mechanical or quartz, whose original crystal is slightly curved. This crystal generally suits routine workshop repairs as well as the replacement of a cracked crystal by a careful hobbyist. Always check the exact size before ordering: the shape of the dome can vary from one manufacturer to another.

Strengths and limitations

The material

Mineral crystal has a standard hardness of about 5 to 6 on the Mohs scale. It is a good compromise between strength and price, but it scratches more than sapphire crystal, especially on contact with hard surfaces.

The shape

The domed profile sits proud of the bezel and gives depth to the dial. One millimetre of thickness gives slightly more rigidity than the 0.8 mm version while remaining discreet on the wrist. The raised part, however, remains the area most exposed to scratches.

Taking measurements with a calliper

1. Remove the old crystal or, if it is broken, measure the bezel opening.
2. Take the diameter at the base of the crystal, not at the top of the curve.
3. Measure the thickness at the edge.
