Domed mineral crystal 1.5 mm

A mid-range thickness

Between thin crystals and thick models, the 1.5 mm domed mineral crystal sits in the middle. It is often found on men's watches and sports or casual models whose bezel takes a slightly heavier crystal. Its diameter range, from 18.0 mm to 50.0 mm in 64 sizes, makes it best suited to medium and large cases.

Mineral and domed: the verdict

Here is what you need to know before choosing:

• Strength: mineral crystal, with a standard hardness of about 5 to 6 on the Mohs scale, copes well with daily wear and remains affordable.
• Scratches: it marks more easily than sapphire; a watch worn during manual work will show traces.
• Profile: the curve makes the crystal sit proud of the bezel, which shows off the dial but exposes the centre of the crystal.
• Thickness: 1.5 mm gives more material than a 0.8 or 1.0 mm crystal, provided the case has the necessary depth.

How to check compatibility

Measuring is the decisive step. With a calliper, record the diameter of the worn crystal at its base: this is the size, not the width taken on the dome, that must match the table. Then measure the thickness at the edge. A difference of a few tenths can stop the bezel closing properly or leave play. Our measuring guide shows how to hold the tool correctly, and you can compare materials on the page about crystal types.

Once you have your measurements, choose your size from the table of diameters below.
