Flat sapphire crystal 2.4 mm

At 2.4 mm, this is the thickest flat sapphire crystal we offer. It comes in 53 diameters, from 17.0 mm to 45.0 mm, and is intended for cases designed for a solid crystal.

Typical use

This type of crystal is often found on diving watches and rugged sports watches, whose bezel and seat are sized for a substantial thickness. It generally suits cases where the original crystal measures around 2.4 mm. On a case designed for 2.0 mm, it may protrude above the bezel: hence the importance of measuring.

The material

Scratch resistance

Synthetic sapphire has a hardness of 9 on the Mohs scale. It is therefore highly scratch resistant, an asset on a watch often worn outdoors.

The limitations

Even when thick, sapphire remains more brittle than mineral crystal under a violent impact. It is also more expensive: from €25.90 to €71.90 depending on diameter. Measuring accurately

Use a calliper. Measure the diameter of the old crystal at several points, then its thickness. For such a thick crystal, also check the depth of the seat in the case.
