Flat sapphire crystal 1.0 mm

The all-round thickness of the sapphire range

The 1.0 mm flat sapphire crystal is the item offering the widest choice: 201 diameters, from 13.0 mm to 45.0 mm. This span covers small ladies' watches and large wristwatches alike. Its intermediate thickness generally suits everyday watches, and is often used to replace an original mineral crystal where the bezel allows.

Why switch to sapphire

The hardness of synthetic sapphire, 9 on the Mohs scale, makes it a highly scratch resistant crystal. That is the main argument for a watch worn every day. A few limitations are worth knowing:

• Impacts: more brittle than mineral under a violent impact.
• Price: higher, from €11.90 to €76.90 here depending on diameter.
• Fitting: generally press fitted, ideally with a new gasket.

How to choose the right size

The starting point is always the old crystal. Using a calliper, measure:

• the diameter, taking several readings and keeping the most reliable value;
• the thickness, at the edge of the crystal, to confirm that 1.0 mm matches.

If the original crystal is broken or missing, measure inside the seat of the case: our measuring guide explains both cases. To compare sapphire, mineral and acrylic, see the types of crystal.
